Learn All About The Beauty Technology Taking The World By Storm- The Guide To Microcurrent Therapy And How To Do A Microcurrent Facial At Home
What is Microcurrent?
Microcurrent treatments are rising in popularity, with household names such as Jennifer Aniston and Margot Robbie speaking out on the effectiveness of the therapy; but what is Microcurrent?
Microcurrent is a low-level electrical waveform that can be used to stimulate contraction and relaxation within muscles. Repeated stimulation of the muscles leads to a tightening and toning effect, giving a more sculpted appearance in the treated areas.
The therapy can also be used to encourage lymphatic drainage by stimulating the muscles around the lymph nodes, which can lead to depuffing.
Microcurrent Therapy also boosts collagen through the production of ATP.
ZIIP Creator and leading electrical esthetician, Melanie Simon, explains how, ‘Microcurrent stimulates ATP. Without ATP there is no collagen. Microcurrent and Nanocurrent spike ATP to approximately 500% which lasts for about 3 days. So those few days you make collagen like a 15 year old!’.
What is a Microcurrent Facial?
When discussing beauty trends, microcurrent facial treatments refer to microcurrent waveforms being used on the muscles in the face (and typically neck) to stimulate the contraction and relaxation effect. Over time, this can lead to more definition in the face as the muscles tighten.
Also used to support lymphatic drainage, plumping of the skin and de-puffing, the effects of microcurrent facials usually last around 72 hours, and can be used regularly as part of your skin care routine.
Microcurrent Facial Treatments can be conducted by estheticians in aesthetic clinics and are often referred to as non-surgical face lifts.
However, in recent years, we have also seen the rise of the microcurrent facial at home. With handy, lightweight devices such as the ZIIP HALO, users are invited to conduct their own facials within the comfort of their home, and without the hefty price tag of a clinic visit every time a boost is needed to the skin.
This was Melanie Simon’s motivation behind creating the ZIIP HALO - a handheld device that combines Microcurrent and Nanocurrent for consistent and regular sculpting and toning treatments.
Working in sync with the ZIIP Beauty App, users can safely follow Mel’s guidance at home to target different skin needs and concerns, and maximize the effectiveness of their Microcurrent device.
The ZIIP App offers 6 full facial treatments to follow, 7 targeted treatments for specific areas such as the lips and jowls, and 4 longer-term treatment plans designed to help you reach your skin goals.
The first and only current practicing electrical esthetician, Mel suggests the best way to see evident and long-lasting results is by starting sooner rather than later, to combat the future effects of ageing.
‘The better shape your skin is in at a young age, the easier it is to keep it this way. As we age with consistent use of the ZIIP, clients report that they do not age quickly. I always say it is much easier to create amazing skin and keep it that way vs starting with a major hill to climb. Now we can absolutely climb that hill, but now you have the ability to start early, at home.’
How to Use a Microcurrent Device
Using a Microcurrent facial device at home on your own can feel like quite a daunting task, especially if you’re used to having the treatment performed in a clinic by a professional.
This is why the team behind ZIIP created the ZIIP Beauty App, and why it has become one of the best at home Microcurrent devices on the market.
The ZIIP HALO is an easy-to-use Microcurrent device that only requires a few simple steps.
First, ensure you apply your conductive gel to the entire face and neck if you are treating that area too.
Each ZIIP HALO comes with a bottle of Electric Complex Gel, a natural and simple formula designed to enable the electric currents to travel easily through the face. However, if you would prefer a gel designed to meet your skincare needs, you can also choose from the Golden, Silver and Crystal Activating Gels which have all been designed with different skincare concerns in mind.
It is important to ensure that you use a generous amount of gel, and cover the entirety of your face, otherwise, you may feel an uncomfortable sensation when using the ZIIP. If at any point you feel a shock sensation, pause the treatment, and apply more gel to the area.
Next, choose your treatment. When you select the treatment, the ZIIP App will begin trying to pair with your microcurrent device.
Power on the ZIIP HALO device using the small, circular button on the bottom. When the device is on, you will see a slight glow appear to the band across the middle of the device. The device does not begin a treatment until both silver globes are pressed against the skin. The device will glow again.
When you feel the device vibrate against the skin, this is your indication to begin moving the device up and out towards the edge of your face. Each vibration indicates the beginning of a new movement. Following along with the video will allow you to see the exact movement that Mel uses to ensure full effectiveness.
Halfway through the treatment, your device will beep once to indicate that it is time to move the device over to the other half of your face, and begin treating that area.
When your treatment has completed, the device will beep twice in close succession to signify that the ZIIP has turned itself off. At this point, you may choose to end your Microcurrent facial, or you may choose to complete another treatment. You should be careful not to complete more than 40 minutes of Microcurrent treatments within 1 day as it is important to allow time for your skin cells to rest.
When you have finished your treatments, wipe your Microcurrent facial device down with something soft such as a wet wipe, or lint free cloth, and store the device back in the box. A cloth with a light coating of rubbing alcohol can be used occasionally to wipe the device. Avoid getting the charging point wet.
Treatments on the app range from between 2 minutes to 12 minutes, and you may choose to follow up on a full facial treatment with a targeted treatment. Users should try and incorporate the device into their skincare routine around 3- 5 times a week, with a maximum of 6 times when following a treatment plan.
The Microcurrent Device should not be used directly on the eye, center of the neck, chest, breasts or groin. It should also not be used on any areas that are bleeding, painful or swollen. For those with pacemakers, dental implants, or undergoing chemotherapy, please consult with your doctor prior to use. Microcurrent Devices should not be used by people with Epilepsy, pregnant people, or people who are breastfeeding.
